Ebor Meeting Social Event

The HWPA will be staging a social event at York’s Ebor meeting after racing on Thursday 22 August.

This will be a chance for members to get together and we are grateful to Sky Bet, sponsors of the first £1million Ebor Handicap, who have generously offered to supply food and drink for the event which will be held at the racecourse.

If that was not enough to encourage thirsty journalists and photographers to attend, the committee also felt this was a good opportunity to recognise someone in the northern media and celebrate their contribution to the coverage of the sport.

So we will also be making a special presentation at the event. Watch this space for further news and don’t forget to put this date in your diary!!

New Committee Members

We welcomed three new members to the committee at our AGM at Aintree in April.

Francesca Altoft, Bobby Beevers and Brian Goodwill have joined the board!

Francesca has already been busy and has set up the HWPA’s Instagram Account which will hopefully help showcase member’s work.

Brian will take over as our new Treasurer from Jan Green as soon as we manage to cut through all the red tape at Barclays. Not a quick or easy task.

Jan’s long and tireless service on the committee will be much missed and I would like to put on record the HWPA’s debt to her during her period in office as our Treasurer. The fact our finances are both organised and in such good shape is down to Jan.

Martin Kelly also stood down from the committee as did Mark Popham, who most of you will know is retiring later this year.

Graham Clark has taken over the HWPA Twitter account and will be keeping members up to date so make sure you follow @HorseraceMedia

HWPA Golf Day

The annual and hugely popular HWPA golf competition will once again be held on the eve of Glorious Goodwood on the estate’s magnificent course.

The event on Monday 29 June will have a shotgun start at 12.30, preceded by breakfast at 11.30am

There is always massive demand to play at this event so members are advised to book their slots early by contacting Committee member Dan Abraham on dan.pix@btinternet.com

Berths for the event will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

The HWPA would like to thank Goodwood for their generous support in staging this event.

2019 Derby Awards Lunch

This year’s Awards will take place once again at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on Monday 2 December.

We hope to be able to unveil some exciting news about new sponsorship of this event in the next few weeks as well as news about some new awards.

Due to rising costs we will have to put the price of tickets for this event up to £105 this year but, for a lunch in the West End of London in the build-up to Christmas,  this is still very competitively priced.

Tickets will be on sale in September so, again, watch this space.

Website

This is still not operating as we would like but that is partly down to not enough people being able to edit the site. We are slowly rectifying this and getting more people trained up. This will mean that there is more news on the site in the future.

We are also working on upgrades which will allow us to process financial transactions through the site like membership subscriptions. Please bear with us while this happens.

Membership subscriptions

If you haven’t paid yet, your annual subscription is overdue! Until the website is upgraded, the best way to pay is online or by transferring money to the HWPA account.

The HWPA account is: 80078751

Sort Code: 20-59-14

Make sure you reference your name & SUBS

Remember to be eligible for awards at the Derby Awards, you must be a member.
