There are a number of changes to the Derby Awards this year. In particular, a new Award is being introduced. This is the Content Award.
The HWPA Committee would very much appreciate any feedback members have about this award, so that any tweaks that need to be made prior to the opening of entries for the Awards on 6th October.
Content Award – new for 2025
This is a new Award, introduced to reflect the rapidly changing state of journalism in general terms and is intended in particular to highlight those that work in non-traditional media, though entries from those working in traditional formats will be accepted.
The award is intended to recognise outstanding work across social media, AV projects, podcasts and all other multi-media outlets.
Entrants are invited to submit a showreel or slideshow of work up to a maximum of TWO minutes in length. The Award will be judged on the range and depth of the submitted entry, with particular credit given for a portfolio that shows work that is engaging, entertaining and informative.
Entries open on October 6. You can become a member of the HWPA to enter here.
Emerging Talent changes
One other change that has been decided by the Committee is to remove the age limit for the Emerging Talent Award definition. Instead, it now states ‘The Emerging Talent Award is intended to showcase individuals that have recently begun their media careers in horse racing and entries are accepted at the discretion of the Judges.’
In addition, entrants can be shortlisted for the Award no more than twice.
